Sithara Shreen Abdul Saroor

    Shreen Abdul Saroor is the founder of the Mannar Women’s Development Federation and co-founder of the Women’s Action Network. As a distinguished human rights activist from Sri Lanka, she is widely recognized for her unwavering dedication to advancing social justice and human rights across Sri Lanka. With a career spanning several decades, Ms. Saroor has made significant contributions to the protection of marginalized communities and the promotion of human rights.

    Ms. Saroor is particularly known for her advocacy in the areas of women's rights, minority rights, and peacebuilding. Her efforts have focused on addressing issues such as gender-based violence, discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities, and the need for inclusive governance and conflict resolution.

    One of Ms. Saroor’s notable achievements is her role in championing the rights of women and children in Sri Lanka. She has been instrumental in leading campaigns against domestic violence, child marriage, and other forms of gender-based abuse. Her work has contributed to increased awareness, policy reforms, and the establishment of support systems for survivors.

    In addition to her work in women's rights, Ms. Saroor has been actively involved in promoting the rights of ethnic and religious minorities. Her advocacy has highlighted issues of discrimination and inequality, pushing for greater inclusion and respect for diverse communities within Sri Lankan society.

    Ms. Saroor has also played a key role in peace-building efforts, working to foster dialogue and reconciliation in the aftermath of Sri Lanka's prolonged conflicts. Her initiatives have been aimed at bridging divides, promoting mutual understanding and advocating for justice and accountability. She currently serves as a Core Steering Committee member representing minority Tamil speaking women at the National Plan on Women Peace and Security (NAP-WPS implemented by the Sri Lankan Women and Children Affairs Ministry).
