    Congratulatory Remarks

    Ms. Battstseg Batmunkh was born on 9 December 1973, has been serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia since 2021. She started her civil servant career as Head of the Foreign Relations and Cooperation Department at the Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency from 2005 to 2007.

    Prior to serving as Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2016 to 2020, she held various political positions related to international relations and foreign cooperation as a member of the Mongolian People’s Party. Born in Bayankhongor province, she graduated from the National University of Mongolia in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations, then in 2000 acquired a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Finance and Economics in Ulaanbaatar. She continued her studies at Maastricht School of Management, where she received her Master of Business Administration degree in 2005. After graduating the National University of Mongolia, she started her own printing company “Munkhiin useg” Co., Ltd and was the General Director from 1996 to 2005 and later the Chair of the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2015.

    She founded the “Az Khur” bookstore chain in 2005. She is the third woman to be appointed as Foreign Minister of Mongolia. She strongly focuses on promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls, especially those living in rural areas. In June 2023, she hosted the Female Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Ulaanbaatar which was the first time such a meeting was held in Asia. More than a decade ago, she initiated the “Right-minded Mongolian” program, which later became a nation-wide campaign, aimed at instilling passion for learning in younger generations. She is a culturally proud and heritage-conscious Buddhist. With her keen interest in arts, she continues to support emerging singers, performers and artists. She was elected as President of the Mongolian Red Cross Society in August 2023. She is also the Vice President of the Social Democratic Mongolian Women’s Union and leads more than 20 national committees, intergovernmental commissions, and working groups, including the Mongolian National Commission of UNESCO.
