Cecilia Erzuah

  • Force Gender Integration Mentor and Advisor, UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)

    Captain Cecilia Erzuah, an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces, was born on 1st October 1990. She had her secondary education at the Ghana National College, Cape Coast, Ghana. She continued to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, for her tertiary education, completing in 2013 with a First-Class honour in History.

    To fulfil her long-held passion, she enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces, commissioning in September 2016, as one of only two successful female Regular Army applicants, that year. Over the years, she has held various appointments both in Ghana and on peacekeeping missions. Currently, she is deployed on her third peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after having served in Lebanon (UNIFIL July 2019 – August 2020) and Abyei (UNISFA - March 2022 – May 2023). In May 2023, she was awarded as the 2022 UN Military Advocate of the year, by the United Nations’ Department of Peace Operations, in recognition of her efforts and dedication to promoting gender equality and the principles of the UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 on women, peace, and security, while she served as an Engagement Platoon Commander in Abyei. Presently, as the Gender Integration Mentor and Advisor of the United Nations’ Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
