Arlene B. Tickner
Ambassador at-large for Gender Issues and Feminist Global Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia
Congratulatory Remarks
Arlene B. Tickner is a committed feminist with over 30 years of teaching, research, mentoring and consulting experience in the field of International Relations. She holds a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. She has been a professor at the Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Universidad del Rosario. Since January 2023, she has worked as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations in New York.
Ambassador Tickner’s research focuses on Colombian foreign policy, Latin American security, global South approaches to world politics, and disruptive approaches to international relations, among which feminist, postcolonial, decolonial and indigenous thinking, and critical race theory and queer theory, figure prominently. She has authored and co-authored approximately 100 books, edited volumes, book chapters, journal articles and working papers.
In addition to her academic trajectory, ambassador Tickner is known for her media activities, including as a columnist for the Colombian daily, El Espectador, panelist for the nightly program Hora 20, and expert analyst for national and international radio and television.
